Jan van Riebeeck established a outpost at Cape of Good Hope (Cape Town today) to
resupply VOC ships on route to East India in 1652.

Simon van der Stel became the Governor of the Cape of Good Hope colony in 1679.
The son of a freed Indian slave and a official from the OVC, technically the 1st mixed race official
in South Africa and came to his position through the old term
“It is not what you know, but who you know”, thanks to his marriage to Johanna Jacoba Six. 
She was the daughter of a wealthy cloth dealer and the nice of Jacob J Hinlopen
who was a co-founder of the OVC.
